Brabus B63S-700 Widestar kit for ML 63, GL 63 AMG

A Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG or GL 63 AMG will be plenty fast for most of us, but for those with an insatiable appetite for power and torque, Brabus has the answer. The tuner’s new B63S-700 performance kit significantly upgrades the already strong 5.5 litre V8 biturbo engine in the two AMG-tuned SUVs.

Changes include intake and charge-air pipes with Brabus’ Gold Heat Reflection insulation, two bigger turbochargers with higher boost pressure, a free-flow metal catalyst system exhaust (three-inch diameter downpipes) and new mapping for injection and ignition.

With max power output of 700 hp, the B63S-700 engine adds on a significant 175 hp in the ML 63 and 143 hp in the bigger three-row SUV. Just as impressive is the increase in torque, where 960 Nm is available from 2,000 rpm. They could have done more, but peak torque was limited electronically to protect the drivetrain.

Combined with the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission, the all-wheel-drive ML 63 accelerates to 100 km/h from rest in just 4.4 seconds. The heavier GL takes just two tenths of a second longer. The Brabus Vmax unit, which is part of the engine conversion, limits the top speed electronically to 300 km/h to protect the tyres, the tuner says.

Modifications were made for the SUVs to cope better with the increased speed. The Brabus Widestar widebody kit adds on fender flares on the front and rear axle. The flares add six cm to the width of the ML, eight cm for the GL, and accomodates super fat Brabus “king-size” wheels with diameters of up to 23 inches.

A special Brabus control module for the Airmatic air suspension lowers the ride height of the mega SUVs. Looks aside, this brings a lowered centre of gravity. To reduce negative lift on the front axle, Brabus developed an additional front spoiler and a rear spoiler to aid aerodynamics.

Inside, the Bottrop tuner can whip up a tailor-made cabin with leather, Alcantara and a teakwood floor in the boot. One can also add on Brabus aluminum shift paddles. The same B63S-700 treatment for the boxy Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG is coming up next.

Brabus also has B50-520 and B63-650 PowerXtra CGI performance kits for the new W222 S-Class, taking figures up to 650 hp and 1,000 Nm. See the big bad limo here.
