It wasn’t that long ago that the Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport arrived on the scene to replace the Insignia VXR as the top-dog performance model in the brand’s range. Just under a year ago, in fact.

Well, a ‘new’ Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport is set to make its world debut in Frankfurt, and you’d be forgiven if it looked like the current one at first glance. Exterior revisions for both the hatch and sports tourer variants are mild – a restyled front and rear, with new design headlamps and a reworked grille/bumper that continues to feature the distinctive VXR ‘saber-tooth’ detailing at the front, and tailpipe trim that’s integrated into the rear valance.

Inside the car, there’s an all-new instrument panel and central console design, which now incorporates optional Bluetooth-operated internet connectivity, an eight-inch touchscreen, 3D navigation and voice control. The 325 PS twin-scroll turbocharged 2.8 litre ECOTEC V6 continues unchanged, with mechanical changes being revisions to around 60% of the adaptive AWD SuperSport’s rear suspension components.

Additionally, modifications to the ESP software have been made to offer more precise handling and control of understeer, and upgrades to the damper software have been carried out to improve the FlexRide adaptive damping system. Also in the mix is improved NVH performance.
