Mazda to begin sales in Cambodia by year end

Mazda CX-5

Some regional news – Mazda will make Cambodia its ninth ASEAN market when it opens its first dealership in the capital, Phnom Penh, later this year. The automaker will be represented in the country by a local partner, HGB Auto Co.

Five models will make the initial model range in the country, according to the Nikkei. The CX-5 SUV, as well as the CX-9 and Mazda6 sedan, will be sourced from Japan, while the Mazda3 and BT-50 pickup will come from the company’s Thai production. Pre-ordering has already begun.

The report adds that sales of new cars in Cambodia are on the rise, what with road networks continuing to grow. In 2012, 1,550 vehicles were sold, which was double the 2005 level, according to statistics given by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.
