SPYSHOTS: Porsche Macan in the open, best view yet

Porsche-Macan-004

This is the Porsche Macan, Zuffenhausen’s baby SUV and younger sister to the extremely successful Cayenne. It is set to debut in production form later this year, and we’ve seen spyshots of lightly disguised mules on test before, but only in black. Here, one wearing a sliver suit comes out to play, giving us the best view yet of the small SUV.

Like before, this test unit wears Cayenne-style headlamp and rear lamp cluster stickers to confuse you and me – the actual items are smaller and slimmer. Otherwise, the Macan looks like a shruken Cayenne with a sportier stance and roofline. Speaking of the roof, it looks like a panoramic glass roof will be on the option’s list.

British mag Autocar says that it is likely to measure around 4,600 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,650 mm high. Should those figures be accurate, the Macan will be 210 mm shorter, 50 mm slimmer and 40 mm lower than the Cayenne. The Macan sits on the VW Group’s next-gen MLB platform that will also underpin the next Audi Q5, among other SUVs within the family.

According to reports, the Macan is set to be the first Porsche to use four-cylinder engines since the 968 in 1995. Besides turbo fours, the engine range will have V6 units and diesels, too. Click here to see a big gallery of the Macan in black.
