Toyota has introduced a new Crown variant for its domestic market, and the Crown Majesta hybrid rolls in as the new biggie in the 14th-generation range – it has a 75 mm longer wheelbase than the S210 Crown (in Royal and Athlete forms) that made its debut last December.

The 4.97 metre-long rear-wheel drive offering is equipped with a 3.5 litre V6 Atkinson-cycle unit, and the 2GR-FXE is good for 292 PS at 6,000 rpm and 354 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. It’s paired with a 1KM electric motor offering 147 kW (or 200 PS) and 275 Nm, with a total maximum output of 343 PS being quoted.

Exterior styling cues include a grille with vertical bars and additional use of chrome accents around the car, including for the fog lamp surrounds and as a rocker panel dressing strip. The Majesta features an active lower-front grille shutter, which opens and closes according to vehicle speed and engine water temperature.

The interior features leather seats in a choice of two finishes, Black or Flaxen, as well as sunburst wood grain ornamentation patterned after zelkova tree growth rings. Plenty of wood on call – the front seat backs are dressed in wood grain, as are the rear seat center armrest and rear air conditioning vent covers.

The nickel-metal hydride battery is located in the front of the trunk space, while the secondary battery is placed under the floor, so the Majesta offers ample cargo space, enough to accommodate four golf bags, the automaker says.

Besides space, plushness of ride is also promised from the Navigation/Artificial Intelligence-Adaptive Variable Suspension System (NAVI/AI-AVS) and its electronically-controlled shock absorbers.

Standard equipment includes a radar-based Blind Spot Monitor system, a Tyre Pressure Warning System as well as an Adaptive High Beam System, which automatically dips the high beam upon sensing an approaching vehicle. Also available for the car is a Pre-collision System (with millimeter-wave radar) and a parking assist Intelligent Clearance Sonar.

There’s also a Panoramic View Monitor, which integrates images from cameras mounted on each vehicle side to offer a composite view of surroundings via the navigation system display.
