Citroen SUV is Asian-bound, based on DS Wild Rubis

Citroen is said to be readying a new large SUV that is to be sold in China and other Asian countries (but not Europe), according to a recent Autonews Europe report. The Citroen SUV will enter production by the end of next year, with styling derived from the well-accepted DS Wild Rubis Concept shown in Auto Shanghai 2013.

As it’s to be developed exclusively for the Chinese and Asian markets, it’s very likely that the large SUV will be underpinned by a stretched DS5 platform (itself a lengthened PF2 platform used on the DS4), rather than PSA’s newer and more sophisticated EMP2 base already debuted on the new C4 Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso and Peugeot 308.

The Shanghai concept sat on a modified DS5 platform, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. For a simple size comparison, its length measured in at 4,700 mm, making it nearly as long as a Volkswagen Touareg and bigger than Citroen’s two existing SUVs, the Mitsubishi ASX-based C4 Aircross and C-Crosser, a rebadged previous-gen Outlander.

Rumoured to be called the DS7 or DSX7 (the DS Wild Rubis was first announced as the DSX Concept), it sure looks like Citroen is aiming big with this new flagship SUV, which is set to spearhead PSA’s multi-level brand restructuring. Could it come to Malaysia, or rather, would you want it to?
