Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse

Gallardo Squadra Corse-01

Not yet time for a new Gallardo, so we’ll have to make do with another special edition. IAA Frankfurt has seen the debut of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse, which Sant’Agata says will bring the thrills associated with motorsport to the street-legal world.

The name Squadra Corse refers to the recently founded Automobili Lamborghini department, which manages all motorsport activities from GT3 to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships in Europe, Asia and America.

The limited run Squadra Corse is the most extreme road Gallardo and is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo race car that features in the abovementioned world’s fastest one-make series. Both share the same 570 hp V10 engine (used in the race car with no mods) and a robotised e-gear six-speed transmission operated by steering paddles.

The Squadra Corse gets the race car’s rear wing for greater aerodynamic load, achieving – under the best aerodynamic conditions – three times the load of the Gallardo LP 560-4. This benefits dynamic stability during tight high-speed cornering. Also taken from the track car is the removable engine hood equipped with a quick-release system. Both the rear wing and hood are made from lightweight carbon composite material.

Speaking of weight, the Squadra Corse has a dry weight of 1,340 kg, 70 kilos less than the Gallardo LP 560-4. With an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 2.35 kg per hp, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 10.4 seconds and maxes out at 320 km/h. The production-standard carbon-ceramic brake system provides stopping power.

The Squadra Corse is available in Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and Rosso Mars (red), accented with matte black on the large rear wing. The hood, front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19-inch forged wheels are painted in high-gloss black, while the brake calipers are available in red, black or yellow. There’s a decal strip along the flanks displaying the colours of the Italian flag.

Inside, carbon fibre and Alcantara are the dominant materials. The latter covers the lower dashboard, central panel of the seat cushion and the backrest. The door panels, racing seats and centre console cover are made from CF, which is also found on the handbrake frame, lower rim of the steering wheel and door handles, among other places. Standard seats can also be ordered in place of the racing buckets.
