Renault Duster leads the brand’s return to Indonesia

Renault has announced its official return into the Indonesian market, and the brand will be represented in the country by PT Indomobil Sukses International, which has been the local Nissan partner since 1981 – a partnership agreement was signed yesterday to cement the deal.

Three models will pave the way back, with the spearhead led by the Renault Duster, which will be locally assembled in Indonesia by Indomobil. The vehicle, which will wear the Renault brand prefix instead of a Dacia one, will be launched in its 1.5 dCi K9K diesel engine form – no mention is made of the output tune, but this should presumably be the 85 PS and 200 Nm, five-speed manual version.

India also assembles the Duster, and a report last year indicated that the French automaker had plans to export the SUV to select ASEAN markets, Malaysia among them. The Duster also provides the basis for another form in India – back in August, the Nissan Terrano, which is essentially a rebadged Duster with Nissan styling cues, was launched in the country.

The other two models that are the brand’s Indonesian pathfinders are the Koleos SUV and the Megane R.S – a Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB8 example is on display at the Renault stand at the just-opened Indonesian International Motor Show.

Renault says that beginning 2015, it will launch locally-assembled tailor-made products for the Indonesian market, and Indomobil is aiming to have 45 Renault showrooms in the country by 2016.
