SPYSHOTS: Is this the upcoming Peugeot 308 GTI?

We already have some idea of how a high performance version of the new Peugeot 308 could look like thanks to Peugeot’s Frankfurt 2013 debutant the 308 R concept. The 308 R featured revised bumpers with much larger air intakes than the regular 308. It also sits 26mm lower than the 308.

This might be our first look at the upcoming high performance Peugeot 308 GTI, which will go against cars like the Golf GTI and the Focus ST. Our European spy photographers sighted these Peugeot 308 mules on test. It looks like its wearing the same bumper and even alloy wheels as a regular 308, but there’s some disguise on the front bumper.

Things are slightly different on the rear. The rear bumper diffuser design seems to be a little different compared to the regular 308. In a normal 308, the diffuser design on the bumper doesn’t exhaust any exhaust pipes. On these test cars, there seems to be two cutouts in the diffuser.

The 308 R Concept used a 270 horsepower, 330Nm version of PSA’s 1.6 litre Prince four cylinder turbocharged engine, a similiar tune as that found in the RCZ R. Will the production 308 GTI make that much power, or will it do something closer to the 208 GTI‘s output?
