SPYSHOTS: Next gen BMW X1 to be front wheel drive?

What we’re looking here is a small SUV from BMW that could very well be the next generation BMW X1, since it looks to be the appropriate size. The first generation X1 made its debut in 2009, and was facelifted in 2012, so we might be looking at the next generation introduced in 2015 or 2016.

Perhaps the most interesting bit about the next generation X1 is the fact that there are talks about this car switching to a front wheel drive layout, sharing a platform with the production versions of the BMW Concept Activity Tourer. BMW already has an all wheel drive system for its front wheel drive cars – it can adopt the system it used for the MINI Countryman ALL4, but there will probably be front wheel drive versions of this car as well, just like how the current X1 has rear wheel drive versions.
