Here is the first official image of the new Honda Mobilio MPV, which has made its world debut at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta. Previously seen via a sketch and leaked slides, the new MPV has been developed exclusively for Asian markets.

The Honda Mobilio, which is based on the Brio platform, will mark Honda’s entry into the lower priced MPV category, which is the biggest segment in high-growth Indonesia. Honda said that it developed the Mobilio based on research conducted in Indonesia regarding local road and weather conditions, and customer needs.

While offering a spacious cabin with three-row seating for seven occupants, the Mobilio’s compact-sized body fits well with the general size of parking spaces in Indonesia, which are of less than 4.4 metres in length, according to Honda. Local road surface conditions have been taken into consideration, and ground clearance is pretty high as a result. In fact, the 185 mm clearance is equivalent to that of some SUVs.

The Honda Mobilio MPV is powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC engine “realising both excellent driving performance and fuel economy.” Previously leaked slides show the availability of a manual gearbox for the basic S and E models as well as a CVT for the top of the range E variant. Production will be at the new Karawang plant that will become operational in January next year. More info and live pics from the show floor coming soon.
